Chocolate is a delicious treat that millions of people enjoy every day. Whether it’s a chocolate bar, chocolate chip cookies, chocolate cake, chocolate milk, as an afternoon snack, or dessert, there are many ways and reasons to eat chocolate.
In fact, chocolate craving is one of the most common cravings that people have. However, not everyone can indulge in this tasty treat due to dietary restrictions or health concerns. I consider myself a chocoholic and I successfully learned to curb my love for chocolate when I lost 80 pounds in 8 months.
If you’re looking for a healthy alternative to chocolate to satisfy your sweet tooth without compromising your health, look no further! Here are my personal recommendations for some tasty and nutritious alternatives that will satisfy your sweet tooth.
Healthy Alternatives to Chocolate
Chocolate is delicious, but unfortunately, it has been linked to obesity and acne, as well as high blood pressure, heart disease, and diabetes in some people. The temptation of a bar of chocolate after dinner can seem almost impossible to resist, but it is important not to overeat this tasty treat.
If you’re looking for a healthy alternative to chocolate, there are plenty of options available, which will help to satisfy your sweet tooth while providing important nutrients and vitamins. Moreover, these substitutes will eave you feeling less guilty about indulging in an unhealthy snack

Instead of reaching for chocolate when you are craving something sweet, here are some tasty alternatives to chocolate that will help curb your sugar cravings, and give you an energy boost.
Dark Chocolate

For those who still want to indulge in some chocolate but don’t want all the added sugar from milk chocolate, dark chocolate might be a better option for you! Dark chocolate has more cocoa than milk chocolate, which means it’s not as sweet and often times has a bitter taste.
This type of chocolate has many health benefits like lowering blood pressure levels and cholesterol levels in some people with high-risk factors such as diabetes or cardiovascular disease!
Dark chocolate has a high concentration of antioxidants that help protect against free radical damage to cells caused by things like pollution and smoking.
Also, dark chocolate chips are a healthier alternative to milk or white chocolate chip when baking.
Dark chocolate does contain natural ingredients but there may be sugar added so be mindful of that! It’s important not to overdo it, a few small pieces are plenty for most people without any adverse effects on weight gain or blood sugar levels.
Chocolate Covered Nuts
These are another healthy alternative because most nuts contain high amounts of protein and healthy fats like omega-three fatty acids.
Look for healthy nuts like almonds or hazelnuts which are packed with protein and low in fat. They usually come coated with dark chocolate, a healthier choice with an added taste of sweetness without all the calories!
Chocolate Covered Pretzels
This is one snack you can’t go wrong with because it has both a salty flavor to satisfy your cravings and a chocolatey taste to hit the spot. They’re perfect when you want something sweet but also crunchy!
Fruit

One of the healthiest and most popular alternatives to chocolate is fruit. Fresh fruit options like strawberries, blueberries, and bananas are all delicious and nutritious ways to indulge in the sweetness without eating any processed chocolate.
There are endless possibilities when it comes to fruits to satisfy your sugar craving, but some of my favorites include strawberries, blueberries, apples, and bananas.
Fruit is high in vitamin C and vitamin E which are great for boosting immune system function as well as improving skin health!
Fruits also contain fiber that can help keep you full throughout the day by slowing down digestion so there’s less of a chance you’ll snack later on.
Yogurt

Another great alternative to chocolate is yogurt, especially Greek yogurt. Yogurt is healthy, delicious, and can be made into many different flavors. It often contains probiotics which are good bacteria that help keep your gut healthy!
Yogurt has protein from milk products plus probiotics which help support healthy digestion and immune systems. It also has calcium which is important for maintaining strong bones and preventing osteoporosis. Yogurt is also low in calories so it won’t make you gain weight while still satisfying your sweet tooth with its natural sugars.
Yogurt is a great alternative to chocolate when you’re looking for something healthy, sweet, and satisfying! A great snack option for people who don’t want to feel deprived either!
Protein Bars

If you’re looking for an alternative when craving chocolate that’s a little more filling, protein bars can be a great option. They often contain chocolate flavors and are a good source of protein which will help to keep you full throughout the day, making them a delicious alternative to regular chocolate bars.
Protein bars can also be a good source of fiber, which is important for digestion. Also, they can help to regulate blood sugar levels.

Some protein bars also contain antioxidants which can help protect against free radical damage to cells caused by things like pollution and smoking.
Some people find that protein bars are a helpful way to curb their cravings for chocolate and other sugary snacks!
They’re also easy on your wallet because they come in single-serving sizes so you don’t have to spend money buying multiple packages at once!
Whole Grain Bars
Whole grain bars are another good way to replace chocolate when you’re looking for a filling snack. These bars often contain complex carbs, fiber, and protein which all work together to help keep you full throughout the day!
Whole grain bars are also a good source of vitamins and minerals like vitamin B12, magnesium, zinc, and selenium that many people don’t get enough of in their diets!.
These nutrients can be beneficial for your immune system functioning as well as energy levels in some people who have low blood sugar issues such as type II diabetes or hypoglycemia (low blood sugar).
Like protein bars, they come in single-serve sizes so you can grab them on the go.
Chocolate Milkshake
This might not be the healthiest option on this list, but it sure does taste delicious! If you’re looking for something chocolatey and creamy, then this is the perfect substitute. Just make sure you use healthy milk like soy milk, almond milk, or coconut milk, and don’t add too much sugar.
You can also make your chocolate milkshake even healthier by adding a tablespoon of chia seeds.
Satisfy Your Sweet Tooth

So there you have it! A variety of delicious and healthy alternatives to chocolate that will satisfy your sweet tooth without all the added sugar and fat from regular chocolate. Whether you’re looking for something sweet, salty, or crunchy, I’m sure you’ll find something on this list that will hit the spot and be part of your healthy lifestyle. But remember: a little bit goes a long way with these healthier options so enjoy them in moderation!
So next time you’re feeling the urge to indulge in chocolate, try one of these alternatives instead and you’ll be surprised at how satisfying they can be! They worked for me and hopefully they will work for you too!

True dark chocolate is really bitter, unfortunately, so I like the in-between dark milk chocolate the best. I find fruit can satisfy my sweet tooth too!
I agree that true dark is too bitter for most people. But there are some brands that have a lower percentage of dark chocolate.
