There are plenty of sugar-free coffee syrups on the market these days.  I’ll be reviewing my favorite syrups with natural sweeteners and telling you why I love them. Why Reduce Sugar Your Intake?

Some people claim that sugar is the root of all evil, while others say that it’s just fine in moderation. There seems to be a lot of debate over how much sugar we should consume and what the health risks are associated with consuming too much sugar.

While sugar is a naturally occurring substance, it is also one of the most heavily processed foods in our diet. The average American consumes about 22 teaspoons of added sugar per day, which far exceeds the recommended limit of six teaspoons for women and nine for men.

Overconsumption of sugar is linked to some serious health problems, including obesity, heart disease, and type II diabetes. So it’s important to limit your sugar intake.

There are a few simple steps you can take. Start by reading food labels and avoiding processed foods that contain high levels of sugar. Replace sugary drinks with water or unsweetened beverages. You can satisfy your sweet tooth with natural sources of sugar, like eating more fruit. Also, you can swap sugar products for sugar-free options.

However, food labels can be confusing. There are 56 different names for sugar! I quickly scan the ingredient list and look for words such as sucrose, glucose, fructose, dextrose, lactose, maltose, and galactose. A sugar by another name is still sugar.

Also, many products are labeled natural because it contains cane sugar. But cane sugar is sugar made from sugar cane, but essentially it’s just as harmful as regular sugar. Similarly, brown sugar is nutritionally similar to white sugar. So if you want to reduce your sugar intake, also avoid both cane sugar and brown sugar.

My final tip is to avoid consuming anything where sugar is one of the first three ingredients. This is usually a sign that it contains too much sugar for a healthy diet.

Artificial Sweeteners vs Natural Sweeteners

To make sugar-free syrup, manufacturers can use either artificial or natural sweeteners. There are a lot of debates surrounding the use of artificial sweeteners versus natural sweeteners.

Artificial sweeteners are created in a laboratory and often times contain chemicals. Splenda or sucralose is a very popular artificial sweetener and can be found in many sugar-free products. Some people believe that these chemicals can be harmful to your health, especially if consumed in large quantities.

However, there is no concrete evidence that artificial sweeteners are harmful to your health. Nonetheless, some experts believe that at the very least we should be “mindful” of artificial sweeteners.

Natural sweeteners, on the other hand, are made from natural sources like fruits and plants. Honey, for example, is a natural sweetener that is made by bees. Agave nectar is another popular natural sweetener that is made from the agave plant. Some people believe that natural sweeteners are better for your health because they are not made in a laboratory.

So, which type of sweetener is right for you? It ultimately comes down to personal preference. If you are like me and are concerned about the chemicals in artificial sweeteners, then natural sweeteners may be the better choice for you.

All of my choices for the best sugar-free coffee syrup for your coffee beverages only contain natural sweeteners.
